When the webring converted from a Yahoo service back to its roots in 2001, many of the sites associated with the BBS Harmony webring [and all other webrings out there] lost their connection to the person who originally submitted and maintained those sites within the BBSH ring.
Some of those sites are still listed even though the webmasters running those sites have no way to get into their site information or make any changes because they don't exist as far as the Webring is concerned.
This loss of connection doesn't happen to any site joining the ring since I adopted it as an orphan and got it working again but many webmasters don't have a clue their place in the ring is not directly related to them.
It is a slow process to visit each site [over 200 of them] and make an attempt to communicate with someone who is responsible for site ops. You'd be amazed how many sites are on autopilot or work without anyone paying attention to them.
One of the purposes of the BBS Harmony Forum is to reconnect these lost souls to their sites so they can update them or change them as necessary. This is a simple process.
Anyone operating a site on the BBSH ring, can go to:
http://www.webring.com
and sign up for a User ID. Once established, you need only email that User ID name to the Ringmaster [cbaker84@bellsouth.net]. Then I will attach that User ID to that site and it will be accessible to that webmaster.
Rest assured, that no User ID will be applied to a site without first checking to make sure it is a legitimate source for the site in question. This will also assist in reassigning site control to new webmasters when the old one can no longer be contacted or found.
This information will be permanently on display here and periodically sent into the Harmonet and SING lists as well as various Barbershop publications and local fora.
Any questions about Ring ops, please send email to the Ringmaster using the Email the Ringmaster option on the Ring page.
