Troop Trains were important to the United States in previous Wars. The first war in which trains were used to carry Americans to battle was the Mexican War in 1846. Extensive use of trains to carry troops occurred in both World Wars.

The Central New England Railway (CNE) / Newburgh, Dutchess and Connecticut Railroad between Dutchess Junction and Matteawan. Dutchess Junction is on the east bank of the Hudson River just south of Beacon NY. Fishkill Landing and Matteawan were combined into the City of Beacon in 1913. The first mayor of Beacon was a former ND&C RR conductor named Frost.

All-time list of railroad names in New York State. Most were real. Some of these were registered and never built. Some were registered just to keep the name....especially RAILROAD and RAILWAY. Like now when someone registers a .com and a .info URL. Some were interurbans. Some just seem to have had NEW YORK in the name. Some are just mysteries.

The Central New England Railway (CNE) came from northern Connecticut and west across the Hudson River in New York to Maybrook. It crossed the great bridge at Poughkeepsie. It later became part of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad.

The New Jersey Junction Railroad owned a railroad connecting what is now the CSX River Division (former West Shore Railroad) with the trunk lines terminating at and near Jersey City, extending from Weehawken to a junction with the former Pennsylvania Railroad at Jersey City, and a branch to a junction with same road near Harsimus Cove. Fifty-three years after the closure of the Tramway de Nice et du Littoral, the Tramway de Nice began to serve its Northern and Eastern suburbs. 2007 saw the completion of Line 1 serving the North-South needs of the city. Line 2 addresses the East-West needs. This WebSite will be updated continuously until completion of Line 2 in Year 2016.
