This ring is built to record the history of 1)Light rail used to transport materials . 2)River ports, the ships, owners and companies. and the towns served by riverbourne traffic. 3)The sites and names of Flaxmills throughout the country..  


In 1950's thee were three flaxmills in Southland still operating. Johnston Bros at Redan, near Wyndham, Neiderers at Gorge Road, and Templetons at Riverton. People can see a demonstration by appointment for a small fee.
