The Draft Horse Web Ring

Are you a lover of the traditional draft horses like Belgians, Percherons, Clydesdales, Shires, or Suffolks? Or is it the lesser known breeds like the American Cream, Friesian, or the Spotted Draft Horse? What about Halflingers, grade horses, or warmbloods used in work situations? Tired of sifting through all of the other horse sites looking for information about this type of horse? Well, the Draft Horse WebRing is composed of websites which cater specifically to the big work horses and any other equines engaged in draft activities; offering information about them or offering something of value to the equine community. We even welcome mules! So if it involves horses or mules and its about working, riding, driving, breeding, showing, or pulling, our ring welcomes the sites that cover it.

Ok, I bought a 24 year old half draft half quarter horse 17 hand texas prison horse. I figure they fed him some kind of sweet feed concoction. Some days he eats good and other times he does not. He never finishes all I feed him. I have even tried wetting it down and then he won't touch it at all. I am giving him 3 scoops of acco safe and sound, 1 scoop of rice bran, and 3 flakes of alfalfa. He gets this twice a day. And the rest of the time he is on pasture not great pasture but there is grass out there. Maybe I am just feeding too much at a time but he is loosing condition not only from lack of use (loosing muscle) but also weight. I am at a loss here. This is my weight gain policy for my rescue horses and they do great on it. He isn't though.

I'm looking for a children's book I read over half a century ago. It's told from the POV of a draft horse. The horse is taken to a fair where he sees show horses for the first time. When he tries to prance around like them, his owner asks him to quiet down. Instead of getting to prance, he's hitched to a stone boat and asked to pull. Although not at all happy, he does his job. He pulls and pulls with the stone boat becoming heavier and heavier each time. He hears the crowd getting louder and louder and throws himself into his work to forget that he's a not a fancy show horse with crowds cheering for him. Finally, he realizes the crowd is cheering for him. He's won the pulling competition, and, when the judge pins the blue ribbon on him, his owner lets him prance around. If you have any info on such a book, please email me at houyhnhnm5 (At) yahoo.com Thanks.
