The Hawaii Five-O Webring is devoted to TV's longest-running cop show, which originally aired on TV from 1968 to 1980. Jack Lord played Steve McGarrett, head of an elite four-man state police unit and James MacArthur played his second-in-command Danny ("Danno") Williams, with local actors Kam Fong, Zulu, Al Harrington, and Herman Wedemeyer, among others, playing members of the Five-O team.
Question: Can someone get this to Karen Rhodes if an answer is not found with anyone else. I believe everything Ms. Rhodes has written about Mr. Lord (both on set and his private life-as much as possible). My question is: There are some rumors about Mr. Lord, indicating that he was gay. Is this true, or just garbage? It wouldn't change my view of him as he remains my favorite star.
I always admired the talents of Mr. Lord and will always be a fan. However, I do have a question. Why the nasty rumor of him being gay? After all, he was married to Marie for almost 50 years. He seemed rather shy around romantic scenes, which wouldn't imply he's gay. Tell me please, if anyone knows anything about this. It won't change how I feel about this wonderful actor and humanitarian. Thanks.

Little information about McGarrett's life prior to joining Five-O in 1959 was ever brought out in the show. This is my fan fiction which attempts to fill in the blanks regarding our hero's exploits during his Naval Intelligence career.
