This site details the life of John Martin (born Giovanni Martino), Custer's bugler and carried the infamous last message. In the history books, he remains forever known as the last "white man to see Custer alive." Yet there was more to his life, including marching with Garibaldi and fighting in Cuba. He would father five children, run a sweets shop, and work in the NYC subway.

He was a great Italian-American!
