Momwriters

In this ring find female parental units, be they grannies or mommies, who somehow find the time, energy and focus to write with kids and/or pets underfoot (yes the male parental units count as both kids and pets).  It has been proven that women multitask better than men.  We prove it every day.  Pictured:  a detail from "Street Scene" by Giorgio Conrad (1827-1889) depicting one of the jobs of a momwriter, perhaps one who has been unduly distracted from her craft.  In the NavBar:  a detail from James Whistler's 1971 portrait of his famous mother, Anna McNeill Whister, about whom little is known but who, for all we know, is plotting out a mystery while posing for her son.

Hi

I'm looking for a (n experienced) writing buddy to share fiction and advice with.

Though this does not necessarily reflect what or how I write: My favourite authors are David Sedaris, Nick Hornby, Jeffrey Eugenides, Margaret Atwood, Audrey Niffenegger, just to name a few.

My own fiction can be categorised as women's fiction with a strong focus on love stories. I do not write for the romance genre mainly because the industry has created a hackneyed frame of what the genre should be like.

I have an MA in English Literature, Cultural Studies and Philosophy and consider myself an excellent judge of what is considered good contemporary mainstream fiction. I can take criticism and want to learn.

If you recognise yourself in any of the above, or if you feel that we would be a good writing buddy match, please contact me at writesfiction@hotmail.com

If you have suggestions of heartbreaking or unusual love stories that do not fall into the classic romance genre please let me know. I can use all the inspiration I can get.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Susan recently finished the first book in her Matt and Muggzy series, the story of a new puppy, who had to try out several names, before Matt found a name that fit. Muggzy the pug was loved and spoiled for more than fifteen years. Susan envisions parents and children laughing together, reading about the lighthearted ways her family handled daily life. Some stories will be told by Matt, and others from Muggzy’s point of view. Susan resides in New Hampshire with her husband.

Susan’s degree in Elementary Education proved an invaluable tool in raising her now grown son. Susan has always been goal oriented, keeping a running list of things she wanted to accomplish. One top priority was to work part-time until Matt started school, and working direct sales made this possible. Later, Susan dreamed of having her own business, finding ways to giv
