The Central New England Railway (CNE) was a railroad across northern Connecticut and west across the Hudson River in New York. The station is still standing and is being restored. Details of this railroad in the area of Hopewell Junction, New York. It eventually became part of the Poughkeepsie Bridge Route (an alliance between railroads for a passenger route from Washington to Boston) and later a line of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad.

Lots about Watertown, the "Hojack Line", Ogdensburg, Rutland Connection. The 643-mile Rome Watertown and Ogdensburgh became a part of the New York Central in 1891. As late as the mid-1950's, most of the RW&O was still in service. Some of this route is bike / hiking trails; all of it is some of the most beautiful parts of New York State.

Part of the The Central New England Railway (CNE) was the Poughkeepsie & Eastern (P&E). The name P&E did not actually last very long. It started out in 1872 as the P&E Railroad but the name was changed shortly to PH&B. A few years later it became the NY&M and then in 1893 it was changed back to P&E Railway. This was all the same railroad with different names. It was abandoned by the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad.

This most interesting period in the history of the New York Central Railroad was well-chronicled in its in-house magazine. Excerpts from 1919-1931. A 1921 article in "Transportation World" by Charles Frederick Carter provides the basis for an historical sketch of the New York Central. George H. Daniels was the road's General Passenger Agent for many years and ranks as one of the greats of American advertising. His article on "Health and Pleasure" popularized the Thousand Islands. Harmon was a New York Central-created community and came into existence because it was a logical point to be the outer limit of the electric zone.

Not much railroad activity in Cooperstown, but the New York, Susquehanna & Western has offices and dispatcher there. Leatherstocking Line runs between Cooperstown and Milford with tourist trains. Lots of other small places in Central NY like Marcellus and Dolgeville.

The first phase of the NYC rebuilding at Fishkill Landing starting in 1913. The Newburgh, Dutchess and Connecticut Railroad became part of the Central New England Railway (CNE). The New York Central ran from New York City to Albany and beyond through the Hudson Valley. The two roads met at Fishkill Landing.
