The New York Jets are a professional American football team headquartered in Florham Park, New Jersey, representing the New York metropolitan area. The team is a member of the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL).
All about the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad. The New York Central was created in 1853 by the merger of ten other railroads, spearheaded by Albany industrialist Erastus Corning. Commodore Vanderbilt brought it together with the the Hudson River and Harlem Railroads.
The 643-mile Rome Watertown and Ogdensburg became a part of the New York Central in 1891. As late as the mid-1950's, most of the RW&O was still in service. Everything east of Oswego was part of the St. Lawrence Division. The old Lake Ontario Shore Railroad was part of the Syracuse Division.
The Central New England Railway (CNE) / Newburgh, Dutchess and Connecticut Railroad ran between Bangall to Pine Plains. Running north from Millbrook the first station was a flag stop called Shunpike.The NDC merged into the CNE which became part of the New Haven Railroad. All these tracks were gone by 1938, but the path can still be followed.
The Delaware, Lackawanna & Western railroad once had a branch to Richfield Springs. It was sold to the Delaware Otsego system and set up as the Central New York. Leatherstocking Line runs between Cooperstown and Milford with tourist trains. Lots of other small places lncluded in Central NY railroading like Marcellus and Dolgeville. Syracuse area railroads.
The Rhinebeck & Connecticut became part of the Central New England Railway (CNE). Before abandonment, it wandered from State Line through such New York towns as Boston Corners, Pine Plains, Copake, Silvernails and Red Hook before reaching Rhinebeck and Rhinecliff on the Hudson River.
The "Maybrook Line" was important to New England before the advent of Penn Central and before the Poughkeepsie Bridge burned. This piece of the railroad carried freight from Maybrook Yard, across the Poughkeepsie Bridge to Hopewell Junction where it joined a line from Beacon. The railroad then went to Brewster, then Danbury, and finally to Cedar Hill Yard in New Haven.
