In the end of the 1960s, I journeyed to Fanning Island, Tabuaeran. I liked the freedom and the folks of the island, and thought I would have a chance of residence when I retired! I was mistaken.... A black an white photograph site!
About the equatorial Pacific island of Banaba (also known as Ocean Island) which was destroyed by phosphate mining and its people exiled by the British in 1945 to Rabi Island in Fiji. Mining ceased in the 1970s and since then some Banabans have returned to their ancestral home.
