The Shepaug Railroad ran from Hawleyville to Litchfield in Connecticut. It was owned by the New Haven Railroad and went out of business in the 1940's.

All about the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad. The New York Central was created in 1853 by the merger of ten other railroads, spearheaded by Albany industrialist Erastus Corning. Commodore Vanderbilt brought it together with the the Hudson River and Harlem Railroads.

All about trains run for the President of the United States (POTUS). In 1990, George Bush visited Connecticut to campaign. His visit closed parts of three Interstate highways and disrupted thousands of commuters and other travelers. Should he have taken the train? Lots more about Presidents riding the rails. The Newburgh, Dutchess and Connecticut Railroad became part of the Central New England Railway (CNE) and later the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad.

The Central New England Railway (CNE) was a railroad across northern Connecticut and west across the Hudson River in New York. The great bridge at Poughkeepsie was very important to the New Haven Railroad.

Webb's Wilderness Railroad opened up the Adirondack wilderness. Although educated as a physician, William Seward Webb built two hundred miles of railroad and opened up the Adirondack wilderness where others had failed. New York Central tracks reached into the Adirondacks. One line even went across the Canadian border to Ottawa.
