I have 2 male rats (brothers). About 2 weeks ago, I noticed a sore on 1 of them, George. It was like a round wound, size of a pea, on his lower belly. Did not look like a bite or something that would have happened from falling or from part of the cage, or something like that. The fur grew over it and it healed. Last night, I found a new wound, much larger, on his side. It is like an open sore, but I can't figure out what is causing it. His behavior is normal. He is eating. He doesn't show signs of mites or dandruff or scratching a lot or anything. I've attached the photo of the sore. It is about the size of a nickel. Does anyone have any idea? Or experienced anything like this with their pet rats? Is there a parasite that could do this?
HI I HAVE JUST BOUGHT 2 RATS 8 WKS old and they have not been handled at all - one of them let's you stroke her and the other one goes to try and bite me - I stroke her then she has a brief sniff then attempt a bite - I've read that it can be grooming or nibbling to see what you are and also to squeak when she dies it - but is she just scared or have I bought a nasty rat? Also what's the best way to get them used to being picked up and handled - someone please help
