Mark " Mac" Macintyre is an Army helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He is also a wheeler-dealer of military equipment. But when he wins an Army helicopter in a poker game, he soon finds out that he has bitten off more than he can chew. He quickly realizes that others have their own plans for the helicopter and that they are willing to go to any length to keep it within their control. Mac isn't able to get rid of the helicopter before he unwillingly becomes trapped in a fight between the CIA and Russia; a fight for his life. He doesn't mind his relationship with CIA agent Sheila Hood, but the job they "ask" him to do is filled with danger - not only for him and Sheila, but for the whole world. How could things get so far out of hand over a simple game of poker?

As a combat wounded veteran, I offer to speak for fallen friends - In war, it is understood that you give your word of honor to do your duty -- that is -- stand and fight instead of running away and deserting your friends - When you keep your word despite desperately desiring to flee the screaming hell all around, you earn honor - Earning honor under fire changes who you are.
Story of Vietnam-era troop trains. The last major troop train to be used was in 1965 when 15,000 men and their equipment from the 1st Infantry Division (the Big Red One) rode the rails from Ft. Riley, Kansas, to Oakland, California on their way to Vietnam. Photos of a trip from Texas to New York City (World War II) as an armored division brings its equipment and troops to the port.
What's the difference between a fairy tale and a war story? A fairy tale begins with "Once upon a time" and a war story begins with "No shit--this really happened."
These war stories are all true. Most of the details are from letters I wrote in 1970 and 1971 when I was a pilot flying C-130's out of Tan Son Nhut Airfield in Saigon.
