Troop Trains were important to the United States in previous Wars. The first war in which trains were used to carry Americans to battle was the Mexican War in 1846. Extensive use of trains to carry troops occurred in both World Wars. We have great pictures and great stories about troop trains. Story of Vietnam-era troop trains. The last major troop train to be used was in 1965 when 15,000 men and their equipment from the 1st Infantry Division (the Big Red One) rode the rails from Ft.
